take control of your successes

Guided Imagery & Visualization

The Guided Imagery I use with my clients is a progressive relaxation technique combined with scripts and personal affirmations that are created specifically for my clients. We have two parts to our minds; the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. Our conscious mind is very critical, analytical, and judgmental. While these qualities are good to have when doing our jobs, driving, making choices regarding investing our money, etc. they also cause us to sabotage our success when it comes to attaining goals.

For example, if you wanted to quit smoking, your spouse may say “oh come on, you don’t need any help quitting, just stop buying cigarettes!”. Your conscious mind may respond with “you have no idea how hard it is to quit! I’ve been smoking a pack a day for years! Everyone knows quitting smoking is hard to do!”

Once again your conscious mind has sabotaged your success! When you are in a relaxed state with guided imagery, I am able to bypass all that negative self-talk and reprogram your subconscious mind for success. Your subconscious mind is like a large computer, and it can be programmed to believe you can attain your goals with ease.

Visualization has been used for years by athletes as well as successful business people. Anything and everything we use today was once visualized in someone’s mind before it became a reality. Every house, building, business, and invention was once a thought in someone’s mind. They focused on it, how it would look, how it would work, and they were inspired to take the steps needed to make it a reality. Even when someone writes a business plan they are taking steps to visualize the success of their business. This creates a clear focus, enabling them to have a greater chance of being successful. Using “creative visualization” as described by Shakti Gawain, creates your reality as you not only use positive thinking, but you allow yourself to feel in detail the reality of outcomes you desire as if they have already come into fruition. It is extremely beneficial to focus on “feeling” as if you already have attained your goals, this makes the visualization process much more effective.

A positive attitude, as well as creative visualization, are the keys to creating success. When you learn to have both you stop blaming others or outside circumstances for your failures and take control of your successes.
